Selling your digital products can be hard.

You work days, weeks, or even months to get your products built.

You put it on a sales page.

You configure payment processing.

You send out a broadcast email to your list announcing the sale.

And you still get crickets…

What gives?

You’re probably not giving your audience enough of an enticing offer. What exactly do I mean by this?

How to increase the sale of your products

Do you know why companies run sales?

Sure – there are the times when they actually want to get rid of the entire inventory of “last year’s model” and they do so by offering discounts. But what about digital products or evergreen products (products that stand the test-of-time). These products seem to be sold on sale quite often, no?

Generally, online entrepreneurs and marketers want to offer sales of products because that’s the price they wanted to get all along.

Think about it…

You’ve had your eye on product “X” for quite some time now. It costs $100 (just for easy numbers). For you in this scenario, $100 is a lot of money.

What if it was offered for $50. There’s a strong possibility that you would buy it wouldn’t you?

Not necessarily…

You see, if the product was offered at $50 and left at that, it would barely increase the chances that you would actually buy it.

Why is that?

Because there is no urgency.

Add urgency to make more sales

(Amazon does this really well…)

If you actually want to make more sales, you need to create urgency with your products.

What is that?

Really – it’s just a timeframe that the $50 sale is happening. Think about the holidays“Get a new Mercedes-Benz for $5,000 off MSRP now through the end of December.”

The “…through the end of December.” is the most important part here. Not the discount.

How you can apply urgency marketing (and leave it on autopilot)

caption for image

Seeing as you’re an exclusive member of the premium tribeloyal newsletter, you already have access to all of the courses within tribeloyal – University. Within the “How to Build a Money-Making Blog Course” you have access to a walkthrough that shows you exactly how to create an automated urgency marketing campaign using your Thrivethemes site builder.

What this allows you to do, is it allows for a site visitor to enter your site.

After they enter, they are greeted with a call to action.

When they take action on that call to action (that’s a weird sentence), they are sent into a funnel where a “tripwire” takes place.

Think of a tripwire as a series of automations that take place that causes the urgency campaign to take hold.

Now, after the tripwire is enacted, the potential buyer is set with a binary decision (can go one of two ways). They either take you up on the sale in front of them, or they lose out on the opportunity all together.

Now this works great for both you as well as the customer.

Why?

Because you know as well as anyone what you’re working on, building, and talking about.

You’re the expert – remember?

You know that what you have can change the lives of the people looking for it. You know this will help people solve their problems. You just have to give people the incentive to take action.

Plus – you’re providing this solution for a discount.

Again – everyone wins!

There’s a false narrative about becoming wealthy.

Many people believe that the only way to become wealthy is through getting lucky through some serendipitous event:

The lucky meeting that a musician got with a famous music producer

The lucky investment that helped change the day-trader’s life

The lucky viral video that catapulted an individual to stardom

The lucky break of being born into an already wealthy family

The lucky make up of your genetics that make you see things that others don’t

We hear stories like the ones listed above all the time. If we’re an optimist, we think, “it’s only a matter of time before I get lucky too” and if we’re a pessimist we think, “I’ll never get lucky like they did, so why even try?”

Regardless of how you view the world, becoming wealthy in today’s landscape takes a keen understanding of certain viewpoints and strategies. It also requires certain philosophical viewpoints and the need for continuous learning.

The myth of wealth

Why is it that wealth is so elusive to some but can be caught with what seems like little effort for others?

Furthermore, what even is wealth? Merriam-Webster defines wealth as:

1 : abundance of valuable material possessions or resources. 2 : abundant supply : profusion. 3a : all property that has a money value or an exchangeable value. b : all material objects that have economic utility especially : the stock of useful goods having economic value in existence at any one time national wealth.

But really, when we talk about wealth, it has a more personal meaning to it. Some people think that being wealthy is having a happy and fulfilling family and the means to support it. Some people believe it having a lofty bank account and the ability to spend one’s money on the material things they desire.

For the purposes of this article, we’re going to define wealth as,

“Wealth is the ability to generate assets that earn money while you sleep.”

Now compare that definition to the idea of being rich. You could have $1,000,000 in the bank. Sure you are going to have accrued interest with that sum, but the money in the bank doesn’t yield assets that generate more money.

The only true way to generate wealth is to have ownership.

Ownership includes ownership of a business, ownership in a product or

service, ownership through equity/investment of someone else’s business.

How to gain ownership

For many of you reading this, it might seem like gaining ownership is an insurmountable task. Gaining ownership of an enterprise takes both time and money. You are currently trapped in a job that demands 40 hours (at least) of your time and keeps you satisfied with a nice salary.

A nice salary is just that: nice.

And what is it when something is nice? When you’re really excited about something, do you relay that the event in question is nice?

When you just gave birth to your first child do you describe the experience as nice?

When you kiss a new found love and hold them in your arms for the first time is the experience nice?

When you develop a new app that has the ability to profoundly impact a community to you describe the app as nice?

Something that can have a positive impact on your life is generally not nice. It offers more and thus needs a better adjective to describe it. Trading your time for a nice amount of money via a salary isn’t sufficient enough for building wealth.

“Salary is the price you pay to compromise on your dreams.”
― Nitya Prakash

Getting a comfortable job that allows you to trade your time for a salary is the old model of making a living.

Fortunately, there is a new model for a making a living and it also is the most streamlined way of creating wealth in your life. How? Well the new model both minimizes the time bandwidth required to scale your efforts and it also creates ownership of an enterprise.

Furthermore, it will help defend you against the technological changes that gloom over the horizon. A study conducted by McKinsey notes that by 2030, 73 million jobs are projected to be lost due to automation. Most of these jobs will be monotonous, repetitive and “boring” jobs.

On the bright side, jobs that are going to be in demand in the future, automated economy are going to be jobs that illustrate human creativity. Creative work such as:

Writing

Coding

Visual/performance art

Design

Mental health professional

Dance/yoga/physical health

Podcasting/audio communication

Youtube/visual communication and broadcast

Are going to remain in demand. Why is this? Because when repetitive jobs are automated, we are going to still find a need to innovate as a human species. In the past, we’ve had technological advances that replaced jobs (think of the printing press) and as a species we overcame that (the need for more editors, writers for more content, paper supply companies etc).

So how does this figure in for you?

With modern technology — the internet being the main technology — the barriers to entry of starting your own business are magnified.

Take for instance the idea of 1,000 True Fans. Wired Magazine creator, futurist writer, conservationist and photographer coined the terms 1,000 True Fans more than 10 years ago in his groundbreaking blog article that shares the same name.

In the article, Kelly notes how in the future (but it’s really already here today) in order to create a viable business your company, product or service really only needs 1,000 True Fans to be sustainable (though he goes further into the article noting 1,000 can be modified depending on your widget/service price).

A true fan is someone who will keep coming back and purchasing from your business whenever you release a new product or service. They will follow your narrative on social media and email and will support your overall endeavors.

His math is simple:

If you have 1,000 true fans (people that will for sure purchase your product or service) and you offer that product or service for $100. You are looking at an income for the year at $100,000.

He also dispels the nature of being lucky when it comes to the 1,000 true fans with his idea of the “Long Tail” economics.

Most viral and successful products fall into the “short tail” of economics: they are products that radically change the landscape and are so successful that few competitors come into the market. Think Facebook, Google, Amazon etc.

The “long tail” is more of the niche market products or services that enter the market place. While they aren’t industry or total-marketplace disrupters, they do service a need and are searched out by a specific group of people.

Now with the world being comprised of almost 8 billion people — this bodes well for you in your enterprising, wealth-generating endeavor…

Think about what you are passionate about.

Do you like to write?

Do you like to have long-form conversations with people?

Do you like to draw/paint/create visual art?

Chances are there are thousands of people that are passionate about those things as well.

And the beauty of all of it?

No one is able to relay that creative work like you can. Everyone is unique and has their own gift to share with the world.

The gift you share with the world is your ticket to wealth

Like stated above, the barriers to entry in getting your gifts to the world have been thoroughly beaten down.

The means for getting video content to the world used to be controlled by a few firms that had the means of distribution through only a few channels on broadcast television. Now, those barriers have been destroyed by Youtube.

The means for getting radio broadcast out to the masses used to be controlled by local radio stations that would only put certain content out due to the contingencies of their advertisers. Now, those barriers have been knocked down due to podcasts

The means for getting your writing work shared used to be mandated by a few established publishers that would either accept or decline your work, use their distribution channels to spread the work and then take a giant cut of the sales. Now, those barriers have been blown up due to Amazon self publishing and blogs.

The means for starting up your own fashion line used to take an insurmountable amount of bandwidth to design the clothes, purchase inventory space, find established means of distribution and own a brick and mortar to sell the clothing. Now, those barriers have been removed due to drop shipping services, e-commerce sites and amazon.

While you may be like many other people and fall into a specific niche or industry with this new model of generating wealth, you won’t be competing necessarily with the others in your field the same way people used to compete.

As human beings, we make sense through story and narrative. As more and more of our lives become automated, we are going to find a need to exchange our resources with companies and individuals that share a common narrative with us. We are going to need to find our tribe and do business with them.

That’s where the success of your wealth generation comes into play.

“Everyone is not your customer” — Seth Godin

You have a unique gift to offer the world and no one is going to be able to offer that gift the way you can.

In delivering that gift, the only way you can, you remove luck from the equation.

What if I don’t know what my gift is?

It’s a valid question…

A lot of people don’t know yet in their life what their gift is. If this is your case, take inventory of what the people around you say about you.

“When you’re good at something, you’ll tell everyone. When you’re great at something, they’ll tell you.”

― Walter Payton

Listen to the important people in your life and notice what they say about you.

Maybe people say you’re great at holding a conversation

Maybe people say your doodling is amazing

Maybe people say you are great at relaying and teaching information

Once you open your ears and actually listen to the people around you in your life, you’ll uncover things about you that can have a profound change in your life.

In conclusion:

In order to become wealthy in the future, you don’t need to be “lucky.” You have to have a well-defined strategy that aligns itself with what is going on in reality and the economic forces at play.

Wealth is the ability to create freedom in your life:

Freedom from financial stress

Freedom to travel where you like

Freedom to live where you like

Freedom to meet with and build relationships with who you like

Wealth is created through ownership

In order to create wealth, you need ownership in an enterprise. This can be through entrepreneurialism (the most recommended method with today’s technology at your disposal), investment, and ownership of a product or service.

A salary is never going to be a means of generating true wealth.

Millions of jobs are going to be lost due to automation and a salary and banking on a job that might have existed 10 years ago will leave you far behind in the pursuit of wealth.

Creating ownership is easier in today’s economy:

Ownership is easier today mainly due to to the internet. With the internet, you are able to scale your message to millions of people with affordability.

In fact, you actually don’t need to scale to millions of people. According to Kevin Kelly’s 1,000 True Fans you are able to generate wealth and create a viable business by capturing only a small percentage of the marketplace.

With a true fan (tribe) base, you can tap into like-minded individuals who are looking to buy-in (literally) to your narrative.

Your gift is your ticket to wealth

As we move more and more into an automated world, we are going to need to fill a human-creativity void.

What that means is we are going to move from an routinized, industrial world into a creative and gig-based world where creative projects will propel us towards innovation.

We are going to need to use human creativity to fill this void.

Every human being is creative — it just depends on finding what that creativity isand how you can use it.

Once you find that creativity, there will be other humans that are drawn to the way the story is being told. This is true of all humans. Stories provide meaning in our lives. Whether it be the story we tell ourselves or the stories we glean from the people around us.

Once you find the story you can tell, you can use the technology that has completely knocked down all of the barriers to entry to share that story with the tribe that is looking for it.

From there, you will start to generate wealth. You will create assets that generate money automatically — even when you sleep.

And what comes out of that is freedom. Freedom is what we are all looking for.

Like you — I’ve always been a writer.

I’ve also had this insatiable belief that I was made for something better.

Ever since I was a kid I was either creating and drawing comic books or writing creative short stories in my first grade class. In college, the fellas I shared my dorm floor with and I would workshop skits that we’d perform — of course I’d take more the role of “writer” than “actor.”

Until recently have I started to explore the world of blogging formulating an income through it.

I remember over a year ago I bought my first domain name- wheresthefidelity.com (I just typed in the address in my search bar… #cringe)

I had thoughts in my head and believed I needed to write about them and share them with the world.

I didn’t have any strategy or plan. I just chose to write.

I told myself I was going to write everyday no matter what. I wrote about so many different things.

I wrote about how I thought a “good” conversation was similar to the exchange of information similar to what a computer goes through processing 1’s and 0’s.

I even wrote a review about a Normandy Cider that I bought and drank.

Again, it was pretty much an adjunct, shotgun approach to putting my voice into the airwaves.

Originally, I thought the way I was going to make money doing this was to put out all the thoughts that was in my head into the World Wide Web and produce such unique and creative stories that advertisers would be lining up to take my bidding of putting their product on my site.

Oh boy…

While you could generate an income off advertising on your site, you are probably going to be making pennies on the dollar for a long time (if anything at all) unless you are building or have a titan of a site already that generates millions of views on a monthly basis.

But then why would you be reading this article?

You probably aren’t there yet.

You are most likely a writer or a blogger that knows her way around her own site.

Perhaps you promote your material on various social media platforms.

Perhaps you publish your work on information exchange/publishing sites such as Medium and Quora.

And perhaps you have generated millions of views to your name (if not — check this out).

Good on you.

But you still haven’t seen a single dollar from all the painstaking slapping of the keyboard. Hell, you’re going to need to make money to pay for the carpal-tunnel care you’re going to need in the near future if all this typing persists.

Over the past year I have spent countless hours and hundreds of dollars on building my platform in order to spread my word, full of its insightful value, and ultimately turn an income from all the hard work.

I have finally started to do just that.

Below I have a step by step guide of how I did this. I fully believe that if you adopt the practices I have laid out, you too can find a viable financial reward for yourself.

Step 1: Purchase your domain and hosting service.

This is crucial.

I know there are a lot of “blogging gurus” out there today that say hosting your own site is a thing of the past. They are probably saying all you need is a service to provide you with a landing page and from there, the sky’s the limit.

I disagree for a few reasons…

The landing page provider/CRM/Email marketing service is generally more expensive than purchasing a domain and hosting service on an annual basis. Take for instance Clickfunnels- probably the top dog of landing page providers in terms of their own sales revenue and also the promises they claim to convert more leads and sales. Their entry level subscription is priced out at $97/month. You’re looking at almost $1200 annually for this service and you are just starting out. Not sustainable in my opinion. I use WordPress. I bought my domain for $20 for the year and get hosting for under $3 month (if you’re looking for hosting — check out Bluehost. This is an affiliate link you will be supporting me). This, for me, is a more cost effective and sustainable option for bloggers starting out.

With the sites that provide a landing/squeeze page, you aren’t in ownership of the address- the provider is. I own my domain. I pay for it and carved it out of the the internet. If I were to go with another provider, again let’s use Clickfunnels, they are in full ownership of the domain they provide you. Perhaps in the short term if you are looking to grow a list over the course of 6 months and have the proper backing to use their software in order to do so, “vaya con dios.” However, if you’re like me and you are bootstrapping and looking to build something great over the long haul, this isn’t sustainable.

When you purchase your domain (sometimes can just be your full name) you are carving out your first piece at your stake of the treasure chest of the blogging market that’s ripe for the taking.

Step 2: Blog everyday — write compelling articles and master headlines.

The truth of the matter is, no one knows about you if you don’t give them an opportunity to know about you.

You have to get your voice out into the ocean of online content writing.

The Overnight Success is just a myth. Perhaps there are a few people that can achieve insane virality in just a few articles, however they are on the fringe of the bell curve here.

What your main focus should be in blogging is to flood the airwaves with your content.

Don’t be obnoxious, that can have adverse effects, but make sure you’re writing consistently.

Rome wasn’t built in a day

It’s cliche, I know, but it’s true. It’s especially true with your blogging.

So you’re writing consistently and still no one is noticing your work- even on Medium or Quora…

What do your headlines look like? Seriously, you need to consider this. I know you’re a writer or an artist. You want to be creative and cunning with your headlines so the other creatives will recognize your brilliance.

Okay, do that. Be a poor writer for the rest of your life.

The real writer is also and entrepreneur and marketer.

What content does your audience want?

Furthermore, how are you going to convince them that your article is worthwhile?

The answer is by writing compelling headlines. People do judge a book by its cover, or judge an article by its headline in this case.

Jon Morrow, world class blogger, has great resources on his website of where to start with crafting optimal headlines:

https://smartblogger.com/how-to-write-a-blog-post/

Step 3: Build your Call to Action and Squeeze Page

You’ve been gaining a bunch of traffic and getting views.

You’ve been consistently writing and publishing valuable content for your audience.

Your popularity and influence has been growing.

What do you do now to leverage all of that influence.

The Holy Grail of blogging is your email list. You email list is the Traffic You Own (according to Russell Brunson of Clickfunnels — see, I’m done picking on Clickfunnels). When you have an email list, you are able to direct this audience towards your content (and later your products or services) when and how you want.

In order to build your email list effectively you are going to need a provider. Again, in light of bootstrapping the best provider I have found starting out is Mailchimp. They are the best because of their free plan starting out. You have the ability to grow your list for free for your first 2000 email subscribers.

This is important for you aren’t going to grow your list to 10k overnight (Morrow’s golden number for a proper list).

(screenshot of my most recent email blast: 36% open rate )

Mailchimp allows you to grow your list and also provide landing page templates (if you aren’t going the route of purchasing your own domain).

You can also use plugins to add to any page of your WordPress site. Linking your Mailchimp to WordPress is incredibly simple.

When you have built an email list, you are done just hoping that your audience will organically see your content. You now have the power to guide them straight to it.

Let me define the two terms above for you briefly:

Call To Action:What message you are conveying in order to get your audience to take a certain action. This is a pull to get your audience to do something. Here, it is to get or receive your FREE giveaway (ebook, guide, quiz, survey, report etc).

Squeeze Page: Once you get your audience to take a specific action (click the link to the promised free product) they are sent to a landing page. Here there is only two choices for the person to take: they either exchange their email for the free product or they exit the page. It’s binary. No other choice.

https://bit.ly/2FVAvsR

(You can find an example from my squeeze page here)

Once you are able to convince a reader to exchange their email with your valuable content, you have the ability to enroll them into your sphere and take on the responsibility of crafting your future communication with them.

Step 3.5: Regular communication

Regular communication is key.

Just because you have the email doesn’t mean that you have “won” the relationship with your audience.

Far from it.

You have to nurture this prize you have been given with the email. The reader you gained was interested in your story.

So take them on your ride.

What are you working on?

What are you thinking of?

Where are you going?

What are you building?

If you develop trust, they hear you…

I have discovered that a once-a-week newsletter that promotes valuable information that I have found and shares the new articles that I have written works well. I also like to start conversations with my audience — what are they interested in right now? What content would be valuable for them in the future?

Here, you are continually building trust and value for your newly obtained fan.

This brings us to the next step.

Step 4: Selling your product or service

This is where it all comes together and all the hard work you put in prior to this step is rewarded.

You are selling your product or service that is consistent to what you’ve been blogging about and helps your audience solve a problem they have been dealing with.

For me, my first product is my HOW TO GENERATE VIRAL BLOG TRAFFIC: how I went viral with over 2 million views in just a matter of a few months.

There are many problems I solve for my audience in my product:

How to reach millions of viewers organically without spending a single dollar

How to leverage your new found visibility into a secure credibility as a writer/blogger/influencer

How to craft an intriguing headline every reader will want to click.

How to structure and format ‘The Perfect Post’

How to use language to your advantage in your writing to trigger an emotional response from the reader (which encourages them to share it with someone else).

The 1 habit every single content writer needs to master in order to become successful.

How to transform your mindset into creating quality work that primed for viral sharing.

How to identify and utilize my unfair advantage in find the right “pools” and areas to post your content thus giving you maximum exposure most people don’t know about.

How to use utilize online publications and ditch your blog in order to create a massive audience & become a thought leader.

Now again, I do all of my sales through my WordPress site. You probably can open up an ecommerce store through Clickfunnels or another provider as such.

WordPress has great plugins that allow for commerce (I use the Stripe plugin — you can also use Paypal for business).

(Remembering my first sale — Got to love the process)

Now It’s Your Move…

This is a chance for you to consider what you are going to sell.

There are so many different industries within the blogging sphere that are ripe with an audience looking to solve a problem.

As a real-world example, I’m currently venturing into a different niche:

I am working now with my boxing trainer on creating his blog and thus his future income stream.

To give you an idea, we are work shopping giving away a free guide that is filled with intense ab workouts that can give you six pack abs without needing to commit too much time at all during workouts. He’s a training wizard. For the first time in my life, I have a six pack. I know this is possible. This is going to be on our CTA and Squeeze page with his articles.

We are then going to build a comprehensive 30 day video series — one work out a day, 4 days a week with 3 rest days that will help his audience get into the best shape of their life.

This is going to be his product.

Again, there are so many opportunities here. There are probably hundreds, if not thousands of people in the exercise blogging arena.

One might think there isn’t any more room for us.

That’s the wrong mindset to have.

There is abundance on the internet and people are looking for answers.

You are that answer.

It will take time.

It will take sacrifice.

There will be moments you feel you aren’t making any progress. There will be moments where you feel like you want to give up. You are your own bottleneck.

Just as there are hundreds if not thousands of people that purchase a domain and start blogging, there are just as many who bow out of the game.

Build your empire

If you’re not one of the people who bow out — you propel your chances of winning and creating the life you always knew you could have.

Now go forth and share your ideas with the world!

A common dream within the digital sector is the idea that you can formulate a website and business, create content and products for that business, and watch as your phone or computer’s banking application generates more and more passive income with each refresh of the page.

For many people, that dream is just that — a dream.

It’s something that people will get to someday when the stars align and everything comes together in a deity-inspired culmination of the cosmos.

For others, it’s an idea, a plan, and a goal that is just a few actionable strategic processes away.

This article is for the latter group.

This article is about how, at the lowest level, you can imagine, create, and sell your first digital product and have it be automatically sold once the proper systems are in place.

Now before we get into the nitty-gritty, I have experienced a lot of flack and feedback for the promises of passive income, and it not being something real or attainable.

Below are a few of the responses I’ve received from individuals who think this goal isn’t achievable:

“Hi Jon. The concept of passive income is unattractive or even repugnant for some people. I would even argue that the passive income is strongly against the human nature […]”

“[…] As for passive income. There is no such thing. There is serious work involved in any honest endeavor. Just because you are getting paid after the work is done doesn’t make it passive. It makes it delayed.”

“Nothing about passive income. I was expecting something like ETF’s, real estate or funds, or at least a copy of all other Medium versions that mentions a personal blog, selling [a] book idea just to close it without ending.”

And I have plenty more feedback like this, but I won’t belabor the point for you.

I also have scores of positive feedback on the subject — again, I’m not going to include it here, because if you’re a person who believes in this idea and more importantly, yourself, it doesn’t matter to you. What matters to you is doing the work. You just also need the strategy.

This article is the strategy.

Now, I want to be clear: in order to achieve passive income through one’s blog and online business, there is a lot of active work that needs to take place upfront. Once those systems are in place, you will be receiving visitors to your site, collecting a visitor’s email address to convert them into a subscriber, and simultaneously automatically pitching them your first product.

In this article, we’ll go over how to market your eBook so you can create either your first or another revenue stream to your side hustle, which leads you closer to a 9–5 quitting life.

So let’s dive in.

The eBook Industry at a Glance

There are scores of methods for making side-hustle money on the internet. So many writers and entrepreneurs create content involving a multitude of methods including:

Paid advertisements

Affiliate marketing

Sponsored posts

We’re not going to talk about any of these, for a few reasons. One, I’m not educated in any of these fields. Second, none of the aforementioned methods involve ownership of the revenue sources.

We’re going to specifically talk about eBook sales and marketing. Why? Well first, when you write and create an eBook, you own the product. Additionally, we’re going to focus on the eBook space because of its relative ease in creation, promotion, and sale. This route, while work-intensive, is accessible enough for the vast majority of side-hustlers to commit to and actualize. Finally, it’s a growing industry and space that is ripe with opportunity.

According to Statista, revenue in the eBooks segment amounts to $14,367M in 2020. That’s a 3.2% YoY increase. Furthermore, the people purchasing and using eBooks as a source of information and entertainment keeps increasing 7.8% year over year. And finally, the average revenue accounted per user stands at $14.20.

Now for many of you reading this, the last statistic might seem depleting. You are reading this because you want all the riches in the world. It’s important, depending on your current status and situation within the online blogging/entrepreneurship space, to temper your expectations and to start at a lower-hanging and more accessible level for generating money.

No one is going to make $125,000 monthly starting out — even though there are scores of bloggers claiming to have already done so. They sell this dream that you’ll be making money hand over fist, essentially transforming a blog into an ATM machine. Perhaps that’s possible down the road.

It’s part of my mission to educate you on how to start making money with your blog. Once you can make $.01 with your mind and efforts, you’ve won — anything else is gravy on top of it.

So many people in this space have difficulty seeing the forest for the trees.

We’ve briefly outlined the industry at large. We can see that there is an opportunity for you and your blog to start making money through your own industrious efforts, now it’s time for us to get into the strategy involved in doing so.

How to Effectively Market Your eBook (to Help Generate More Revenue)

In this article, we’re going to focus on the marketing of your eBook, rather than the creation.

Creation is relatively simple. Like alluded to earlier, many budding internet entrepreneurs and content makers get caught up in the weeds when creating their eBook. Really, the creation of the eBook is pretty simple, at least after you have the content in which you’re going to educate your audience.

Your content should contain value that can be difficult for the average user to obtain.

Do you know a new workout method that will help a user get six-pack abs faster?

Do you know a charisma hack that will help elevate a user to being the “life of the party”?

Do you know SEO strategies that will help a user generate tens of thousands of video view traffic with their YouTube channel?

These are all things to consider. I always try and include in my articles the idea that your readers, whether reading a post or purchasing an eBook/product, are always thinking to themselves:

“What’s in it for me?”

Your key is to always deliver on this promise.

Now that you have the eBook created and you know you’re going to try and sell it, let’s get into how you should market it to maximize your revenue efforts.

1.1 eBook Marketing and Content Creation

The most important part of marketing your eBook is the creation of content.

Content is — and will be for the foreseeable future — KING.

According to Hubspot, bloggers who prioritize blogging are 13X more likely to see a positive ROI. Furthermore, 55% of marketers say blog content creation is their top inbound marketing priority.

Content is going to be your main driving marketing strategy to get people introduced to, clicking on, and purchasing your eBook.

It’s also important that you create content in the most effective and actionable manner. This article isn’t about that; however, here’s another article that goes into constructing the most effective and optimal content that drives readership, traffic, and revenue.

It’s also important that you use the Big Three organic and free promotional tools to help syndicate your content across the highest possible viewership.

The Big Three promotional tools are:

Medium.com

Quora.com

Pinterest.com

These three utilities allow for a wide range of syndication of your content. Furthermore, it’s leagues easier to get eyes on the content when syndicating on these sites than it is to have your site with posted content and hope you’ve utilized SEO effectively enough to get on Google’s SERP #1.

If you were to combine the unique monthly users from each of the Big Three sites, you would get a combined user amount of roughly 700 million users monthly (Pinterest source, Medium source, Quora source).

Plus, these users are using the platform specifically because they are looking for content relative to the content you are producing.

So put your content in front of the people looking for it!

1.2 How to Comprise the Content

If you’re entering into the entrepreneurial blogging space, before you make any type of content, you should consider how the reader is going to absorb it.

You are no longer making content for yourself — if you are, then that is okay, but you aren’t going to get very far with generating revenue. This is because, like alluded to above, your reader is always thinking to themselves, “what’s in it for me?”

This is especially true when you are going to ask for a financial exchange (money) when selling your eBook.

This is very important: monetary exchange primarily comes when people are expecting to elevate to a higher status in their life after the purchase.

Think about it…

When people buy new shoes, it’s because they’ll look better or they’ll run better or they’ll be more accepted.

When people purchase education, it’s because they’ll have a better skillset/understanding in a given discipline.

When people buy food, it’s for satiation or status.

I could go on and on, but I don’t want to belabor the point too much.

With your content, your goal isn’t to sell anything — not yet, at least.

You are gearing up for the education of your audience. You want to give them anything and everything you can think of within your space that will elevate their life status. You want to become a leader and an educator, and a way to do that is to educate!

Build trust with your audience. You want to share and share the new information that you’re discovering or already know.

You have to do this in order to get something back later.

“There is no such thing as something for nothing.”

—Napoleon Hill

Your main intent when creating and promoting your content is to simply give.

Give new tools in the marketplace.

Give new insight into performing an act.

Give a new strategy in solving a problem.

Give criticism of an old way that doesn’t work well anymore.

Always keep this mindset at the forefront of your mind when creating and promoting your content. You will begin to see benefits by doing so when you start to get engagement with the posts (comments, likes, claps, reposts, repins, reshares etc.).

All of this content is being created with branding efforts in mind. You aren’t going to sell anything on these sites. Again, it’s important that we understand that all of this is an effort to market your brand.

When you can put out enough content on a regular basis (ten articles spread out over the first 30 days, and at least 5 thereafter on a monthly basis), you can now start to leverage that content in order to sell your eBook.

How to Passively Sell Your eBook

The most important facet of effectively selling your eBook passively is through email address collection.

You need to be collecting email addresses in order to do so.

Why?

Because it is the most direct means of communication you will have with your audience. In Russell Brunson’s book DOTCOM Secrets, he outlines why owned traffic is the most important foundational tool in your online entrepreneurship arsenal.

Picture it like this: you can never have an impact on if a reader reads your article or not. I guess you can increase the chances with a good headline/title, but the reader has free domain over the content they consume when it’s on the World Wide Web. When you have access to direct communication through an audience member’s email address, you open a wider opportunity to have a direct line connection and conversation with that user.

Now, many of you might be thinking that you’ll collect emails and start “pitching” your eBook through adjunct broadcasts, blasts, or campaigns; that’s not where I’m headed with this…

With every platform that you syndicate content on (Pinterest, Medium, Quora etc.), you should have a well-defined and optimized profile bio. That bio should always point towards your site.

The page on your site could be any of the following types of pages:

Splash/landing page

Homepage

Blog post

What is important is that any type of page you select, you should have an email address offer and opt-in form.

Once the audience member opts-in, you should configure in your email service provider’s settings for a “page redirect” after the successful opt-in.

This example is using Convertkit as the Email Service Provider but yours will have it as well.

The page you redirect them too should be constructed as a sales page for your eBook. This page will propagate automatically whenever someone opts-in to your email list.

Now there is no guarantee that the newly subscribed member will actually purchase your eBook or not.

Well, let me rephrase that — you won’t have a 100% conversion rate with the page redirect. No one ever in the history of online email marketing/entrepreneurship has had a 100% conversion rate.

According to Impactbnd.com, the average conversion rate hovers around 2.35%, with the top ten percent actualizing a conversion rate of around 11.45%.

To put another way, out of every 100 audience members that subscribe to your list, just over two of them will convert into a paying customer of your eBook.

That may not seem like anything to call home about, and maybe you’re right.

But if we go back to the beginning of this article, our objective here was to actualize on making at least $.01 of revenue generated by our own entrepreneurial efforts in order to “break the ice” of this online business space.

So no, once you start passively selling your eBook to your audience, you won’t be quitting your 9–5 the next day.

And while that is a realistic goal and within reach as long as you have the right strategy, that is reserved for another article entirely, and this one doesn’t contain the bandwidth to go over that.

But this is where you need to start. Once you can start making even just a penny through your own entrepreneurial endeavors (outside of affiliate marketing, ad space etc.) you’ve entered into a new and wide arena full of possibility.

That is my desire for you going forward.

I believe we’re living in a time where a widespread epidemic is plaguing the lives of millions of people in the workforce: an epidemic of people working jobs they hate, for people they don’t respect, selling products and services they don’t care about.

Imagine what that life does to the individual…

What type of relationship does that build between spouses?

Between parent and child?

Between the citizen and their community?

Personally, I can’t stand to live that life.

And you shouldn’t have to put up with it either if you have the right information, strategy, inspiration, and wisdom to overcome it.

That is my goal with this article — to provide for a foundation of the aforementioned attributes.

And I hope it finds you well.

So go forth and start building your online business and passive income systems to help escape the “Rat Race” and start progressing towards your epidemic-free life.

Today’s economic landscape has lowered the barriers to becoming an online entrepreneur.

In recent decades, it took a lot of resources, oversight, and manpower in order to go into business for yourself. Going into business for yourself has many motivations associated with it:

You can work your own hours

Depending on the work output and value provided, you can generally make more than a standard salary

You have the freedom to choose where you conduct your business

You don’t have to be beholden to anyone except your customer base and audience

All of the above-mentioned motivations (and others not mentioned) are enough to energize anyone into going into business for themselves.

Of course, many people don’t take this route.

Why?

Many people believe that the entrepreneurial route takes on too much risk. People think that they cannot take on the business loans required. People think they need a consistent income now for the current life they’ve built. People believe that their ideas aren’t “good enough.”

The list goes on and on with excuses why one shouldn’t become entrepreneurial.

But that’s the thing, isn’t it? All of the aforementioned excuses are just that — excuses.

When you begin to peel back the layers, you can start to see that in today’s economic landscape, the time has never been better for becoming an entrepreneur — more specifically, an online blogging entrepreneur.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you are familiar with blogs.

You may not, however, be familiar with the advantages of owning and building a blog for yourself.

Let’s reverse engineer some of the statistics that we currently know about blogging: there are roughly 152 million blogs currently on the internet. Within that population, about 31% of those bloggers actually return a profit from their endeavors. Now that might feel discouraging to many reading this. However, let’s take a look at what 31% of 152 million actually is:

47,120,000

That’s almost 50M people who are going to turn a profit from their blogging efforts.

Furthermore, research indicates that only 2% of bloggers actually generate an income of at least $150,000 annually. Again, you might feel like tossing in the towel straight from the get-go after reading that, but let’s dive in further.

That’s still 3.04M people that are going to generate a 6-figure income from their blogging efforts.

Call me crazy, but you should like your chances of being one of those 3M people!

In this article, we’re going to go over the six rules one needs to adhere to in order to build an enterprising and day job quitting blog starting right now.

Rule 1: Show Up (Even on the Days You Don’t Want To)

“You might well remember that nothing can bring you success but yourself.”

— Napoleon Hill

There is no way you’re going to be able to do something great unless you show up every day to do the work needed.

Millions of people want to become their “own boss.” As we saw earlier, only a small percentage of people are actually going to achieve that.

Why?

Well, because most people will give up in the beginning stages of the pursuit. I’ve been blogging full time for four years now.

I’ve met a lot of people.

Most of those people are nowhere to be found on the web any longer. And I get why. It’s extremely exciting to start a new endeavor. Things are new. When you begin starting something new, you feel as if you make measurable progress every time you practice the craft:

Starting out, it’s easy to learn introductory chords of a guitar

In the beginning, you see and feel muscle growth with working out

During the onset, you may receive a few hundred views on your content

And then like most things, these results begin to plateau. The plateau is generally when the vast majority of people practicing a new craft give up.

The results begin to fizzle out and most people working towards building that new skill, business, or endeavor give up.

There are going to be days in which you don’t want to work on your blog — you have to.

There are going to be days in which it seems you aren’t generating any new traffic — keep posting content.

There are going to be days you don’t get any new email subscribers — keep engaging with your current ones.

Show up every day, even if it is to add just 1% more to what you already have. The Great Pyramids of Giza were built one brick at a time.

Rule 2: Solve a Problem for Your Audience

“Don’t find customers for your products, find products for your customers.”

— Seth Godin

All too often, people get into the online business and blogging world because they have a voice and think that it’s so special that people, flocking in the tens of thousands, will gather to heed the information that will cascade through the typing of your keyboard.

Unfortunately for people with that mindset, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

If you’re entering into the blogging space because you want a therapeutic space where you can share your thoughts and get new ideas into the world — c’est la vie. I’m not going to stop you.

However, if you’re entering into this space because you’re tired of working at your miserable job, working for people you don’t respect and making an income worth less than what you know you’re capable of — then listen up.

The surest way you can convert your blog into an online business is first through viewing this blog as a product or service that solves the reader’s/audience’s problems.

Fig 1.1

You can see in the above diagram that you can still blend something that you’re passionate about in order to build the longevity of this endeavor.

It’s going to be hard to write about ways to minimize debt in your life if you’ve never had to deal with that (and you have ZERO interest in the finance space).

Blend what you are passionate about first and think about what problems within that space/niche you can help your readers remedy.

Rule 3: Collect Email Addresses

“Email has an ability many channels don’t: creating valuable, personal touches — at scale.”

— David Newman

The backbone of any successful online business or blog is your email list.

Think about it for a second.

We think that email doesn’t provide immediate value from the perspective of the business owner. Many people entering the blogging space look to the newer marketing channels to contribute to their success:

Social media

Direct messaging

SMS marketing

And believe they can put their email marketing efforts aside for the new flashy toy.

In the interim, some of these newer technologies might work. Depending on your target market and niche, you may see a positive ROI in utilizing these efforts.

However, did you know the number of email users in 2019 peaked at 3.93 billion, according to Statista, and that it is expected to grow to 4.3 billion by 2023?

That’s more than half the population of the Earth! I’m not even going to illustrate how the other means of digital marketing compare in terms of numbers.

That might seem all fine and dandy to you.

But you’re here to read about the money!

Well let’s uncover the ROI one can experience with email marketing:

According to the Data & Marketing Association in their 2019 Email Marketer Tracker study, they concluded that for every $1 spent on email marketing, you can expect an average return of $42.

An email list is your direct line of communication for you and your audience. Without one, you cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to communicate with a reader a second time after they’ve been to your site.

Most site traffic is from first time users. According to a survey from Compendium, nearly two-thirds (63%) of businesses that publish a blog say first-time visitors account for more than 80% of the traffic to their blogs.

It’s important that you can provide a visitor with an incentive to join your list so you can remain in contact with them over the months and years.

Rule 4: Syndicate & Market Your Content Across Other Platforms

With my first product that I took to market, I illustrated how I utilized various tools on the internet to take my blog from inception and garnering over 2.5 million views of my content in a matter of three months.

In one of the modules of the product, in order to illustrate traffic generation, I use “fishing” as a metaphor.

Most people, when starting out in the blogging world believe that

“If you build it, they will come”

This is like fishing with a raft in the world-wide ocean. You have a tiny and slow vessel with not too many tools at your disposal, and you have to navigate an enormous landscape in order to find the fish you’re looking for.

Too many people think that just because the site goes live and they’re creating content, people will automatically find the content and site and they’ll be on their way to blogging dominance within their space.

Of course, this is far from the truth.

No one will find the site.

There are simply too many competing sites on the internet, many of which investing hundreds of thousands of dollars monthly on SEO and other digital marketing utilities to beat you out in a Google search.

According to Statista, there are projected to be 31.7M bloggers by the end of 2020 in the United States alone.

Just because you built your site, doesn’t mean you’ll attract the right attention of the people looking for your valuable content — even if you have the greatest content in the world.

An optimal strategy is needed in order to capture the right traffic.

You need to syndicate your content on the right sites. The sites include (but are not limited to):

Medium

Quora

Pinterest

Now each of these sites has their specific advantage as to why you should syndicate content and they all coalesce into garnering the right traffic with the right viewership.

Quora

Quora allows you to find questions that populations are asking. Your goal here is to answer the questions in article format to help supplant you and your brand as the go-to source for the solution. The questions act as writing prompts as well if you are having trouble coming up with content.

Medium

Medium is Youtube for writers. Once you have content that you’ve created via the Quora prompts, you should be syndicating on Medium for you can start generating revenue income with their Partnership Program. The best part — the program is free!

Pinterest

Pinterest is a platform with over 300 million monthly users. Once you have the content created using the two aforementioned platforms, you can post on this site for a wider casting of the content and the ability to redirect to your site.

Regular syndication on these three sites will help you redirect back to your site where you can start building your email list as well as work towards the promotion and sale of your products and services.

Rule 5: Don’t Be Afraid to Sell

There’s a paradigm shift when your blog becomes an online business: you have to sell.

People who aren’t used to conducting business or making sales tend to feel strange when dealing with this rule.

They feel they may be cheating someone or that selling makes them feel dirty.

When you ask for someone more money in exchange for something you created, the last thing you should feel is “dirty” or that you’re “cheating” someone — especially if you created your product or service with the understanding that it is of extreme value.

In order to combat this, many bloggers want to generate enough traffic with their blog to generate ad revenue as their primary source of income. Did you know, however, that 80% of searchers ignore sponsored posts in favor of organics results? Plus, ad blocking in the United States alone has increased by 30% in the last 4 years.

Ad revenue alone isn’t going to build your 9–5 quitting blog.

You need ownership of a product or service. One of the most viable products in the blogging space is an education course within the e-learning space. According to research, the e-learning market is expected to grow past $300 billion in the next few years.

When you position yourself as an expert within your space and put in the work to design and create a product, you should understand that selling it will not only benefit you as a viable income source but also your audience in solving the problems that have been plaguing them through the help of your solutions.

Rule 6: Have a Long-Term Mindset

“Outstanding people have one thing in common: an absolute sense of mission.”

— Zig Ziglar

Converting a blog into an online business and having that business provide enough income means to help you quit your 9–5, travel the world and define your own professional freedom is a dream that many people share.

It isn’t a “get rich quick scheme” however.

When you enter into this game, you’re going to need to be ready to play the long game.

What’s “the long game?”

It’s a game that is played day in and day out over the years.

If you’re reading this and you want to start right now, understand that you may not see any positive results with this game for the first 3 or 6 months. And that depends heavily on how much work you’re willing to put in every single day.

Most people want the results to come, but they don’t work for the results like they have no other option.

Blogging can be a fruitful endeavor, however only for the few who can show up in the daily-micro to experience the long-term macro benefits. Those benefits include:

Potential six-figure income

Ability to travel the world

Ability to work mere hours a week

Ability to create content that aligns with what you like

But again, it all is reflective of the long-term mindset.

Conclusion

Blogging and the creation of an online business can have insurmountable positive effects on the lives of the people who choose to enter and, more importantly, the people who choose to follow the rules in order to be successful within the space.

Blogging isn’t what it used to be.

It isn’t just purchasing a domain name and hosting and writing about your thoughts and ideas for the world to see.

Of course, it can be that — if that’s what you want.

However, most people want more. They want to take on this pursuit in hopes that they can quit their miserable 9–5 job and live a life in which they’re the architect of their destiny.

In order to actualize that destiny, there are rules you should follow in regards to playing this “game.”

Those rules are:

1. Show up — even on the hard days

None of this is going to come easy. If it did — everyone would be successful. If you’re serious about changing your life with blogging, you’re going to need to do the work, even on the days you don’t want to.

2. You need to solve a problem

Most bloggers believe that their voice is incarnate and just because they have thoughts to share, they believe the world will receive them in kind.

This couldn’t be farther from the truth.

An audience is always asking themselves,

“What’s in it for me?”

Make sure you provide actionable content that answers that question.

3. You collect email addresses

Most people will only come to your site once. Don’t let the people looking for your valuable content slip away into internet oblivion.

Use opt-ins and other digital marketing techniques in order to capture a visitor’s email address so you can continue the relationship into the future.

4. Syndicate on other platforms

Just because you build it, doesn’t mean they’ll come.

You are going to need to syndicate your content across the various platforms that people gather. This way, you are putting your content in front of the people looking for it.

The three best platforms in which to syndicate your content are:

Quora

Medium

Pinterest

5. Don’t be afraid to sell

You’re creating a business. I know it feels different than that of a blogger, but you’re going to need to put products and material out there in which you ask for a financial return.

Without it — you’ll never have a business

6. You need a long term mindset

This isn’t a “get rich quick” scheme.

You’re going to need to be in this game for the long haul.

That is guaranteed to be months and more likely years.

Are you well equipped in order to show up every single day over the course of years to achieve your goal of a six-figure blog?

That’s what you’re going to need.

And the payoff is worth it.

To wake up every day.

And create the creations you wish to create.

To be paid for your own work.

To be and travel wherever you wish.

Who wouldn’t want that?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve heard someone talking about

“making money while they sleep”

And perhaps it’s felt like an elusive rabbit that you just cannot catch.

I know I’ve been there. Whether it be scrolling through my Instagram feed and seeing the latest person talking about how they were just like me 2 years ago and this revolutionary new secret they uncovered helped them make money hand-over-fist. This new secret helped them join the “New Rich” (thank you Tim Ferriss for coining this term.

Whether it be e-commerce or becoming a social media influencer, we see promises all of the time telling us we’re just one more click away from becoming a millionaire.

I say, hogwash…

Why?

Because nothing in this life worth doing is that simple — let alone “easy.”

If you want to make money online, however, it’s possible.

I would know — for I’ve done it.

And no I wasn’t born into a family that helped me with connections or notoriety.

No I didn’t go to school and get a writing degree.

No I didn’t buy all of my traffic and turn it into a viable business.

I rolled up my sleeves, showed up everyday to learn about this business and sacrificed my time, social life and comfort for a life where I now make money building a community and doing what I love.

Below you will see a screenshot taken from my PayPal account that proves some of the payments I made during the second half of 2018.

I’ve taken it upon myself to learn and understand on an intimate level “how the sausage is made.”

I’ve made it a mission of mine to educate to the world that this can be done. The world needs what I like to call, “entre-blogging.” We are going to see millions of jobs vanish from the face of economy.

So the ability to make money through your creativity and to help an audience is a clearly present.

All while asleep (well some times)…

If you’ve made it this far through the article, let’s dive into (from a view at 30,000 ft) how I did that with writing online content & blogging…

Step 1: Get up off your ass

Sorry to be crude but in order to get step one out of the way I need to include this. I remember before I got to this point — the point of not being able to go back to the “9–5 life” I was working at a job that I hated, overweight, and smoking and drinking too much.

Through a life-altering event, I was faced with a dilemma:

Keep living the same miserable life I was accustomed to or…

Try something new. Anything that could divert me from this path.

Needless to say I chose the latter and began to write.

I purchased a domain and began to share my thoughts.

I told myself every day that I would write — even if I didn’t want to.

What did this do for me? It helped develop some discipline.

It helped me say “no” to things that didn’t matter.

It helped me find and be a part of something that was bigger than me.

So I kept writing and things began to change.

People started reaching out and taking notice of my words.

I realized I might have something here.

So I kept writing.

Step 2: Write content with strategy

“What’s in it for me?”

Once you begin writing and blogging for the world to see, you won’t be able to turn your writing into a business unless you answer this question for your audience: “what’s in it for me?”

Why?

Because, quite frankly, your words alone aren’t that special and neither are you.

I don’t write that to hurt your feelings.

But it’s the truth.

But you know what is important?

Helping your reader solve a problem.

That’s why you see so many “How To…” articles. People are looking for advice on how to solve their problems.

If you’re an individual who lost a bunch of weight and knows a sustainable way to help people also do the same — do it!

Write content that helps people get there.

Without strategy you will go no where.

And continue to write

Step 3: Build traffic

So at this point you might be asking yourself,

“Okay…so I’m helping my audience solve their problems, however, I can’t get the eyes on that content! What do I do?”

Just because you build it — it doesn’t mean they’ll come…

You need to have strategy involved with delivering your content.

How do you do that?

Go where all of the eyes are!

Sites like Quora and Medium are the two top marketing engines I use to get my content directly to the people who are looking for it.

I used to do the casual Instagram post trying to promote my content.

What did I get?

Just a few likes from family and friends. They did that out of either pity, because they have a “two-click” twitch with their thumb or just to be nice.

But it wasn’t really making an impact…

Why?

Because they weren’t the people looking to solve the problems I was helping solve!

Quora and Medium are “hotbeds” where people are looking for the specific content you are writing about.

Use these places as resources!

Step 4: Turn that traffic into “Owned Traffic”

At this point you are getting your audience to finally get their eyes on your content. But this isn’t the end goal. Research indicates that on average, a reader spends only 37 seconds reading a blog post. Furthermore, 43% of readers skim the posts.

That means that the eyes are barely staying on your content.

It’s the quantum mechanics of blogging: once they look at the article..POOF! It’s gone

You are going to need a way of keeping those eyes to keep coming back to you and your content.

You do this by converting the traffic that comes to your blog freely to traffic that you own.

And you do this by capturing the email addresses of your reader. You capture the email address through an opt-in offer. Now I’m not going to go into the in-depth steps of building an optimal opt-in, however you can take a look at this other article I created that does just that here.

Once you capture a reader’s email address you can send them content when you create it.

Of course not everyone will read it (the average email open rate for all industries is 20.81%). If you are hovering close to the average rate — you’re going to be just fine.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: If a reader has gifted you their email in exchange for an opt-in offer, treat that email as such — A GIFT! Many readers will unsubscribe quicker than you can say, “Please open this email” if you abuse this gift and send them spam and invaluable content.

Now this is where it starts to get good…

Step 5: Market & Sell your products and services through your list

There’s a myth in the online content and blogging world that you need to have an email list of 20,000 strong in order to make money through your blogging.

Again… hogwash!

If you’ve been delivering valuable content to one person so effectively, they will open up their wallet in order to purchase a product or service that can help solve their problem.

Do you have an educational course that can help people manage their time better?

Do you have a jewelry line that helps young men and women feel beautiful?

Do you have a fitness program that can help people lose 30 pounds in 30 days? (hopefully not because that’s probably extremely unhealthy, but you get my point)

This is now your chance to get these transformational products into the hands of the people that are looking for them!

Again, like I alluded to earlier, however. Don’t spam!

I have found that continuously offering free valuable content and then peppering in the occasional product will help build trust with your audience as opposed to just jamming something down their throat.

The economy is changing. McKinsey projections put the U.S. economy losing around 73 million jobs by 2030. This doesn’t even consider what types of global implications are to come.

It’s foolish to believe the changes in the economy — especially the changes due to automation won’t affect you and your family.

A huge void of creativity and education is going to be present in this new economy. With the tool of online content writing and blogging, you will find yourself at the vanguard of helping keep your own prosperity as well as the prosperity of the community around you in good standing.

The world needs your voice.

We need it now, more than ever.

It won’t be easy — far from it.

But it shouldn’t be easy.

Easy won’t make the change we’re looking for.

Only you and the hard work you put in will.

It seems like every blog you take a look at nowadays there's a income report hanging on a header at the top of the page.

The website is claiming to have grossed 5 figure numbers in the last month and 6 over the course of the last year.

Those are some impressive numbers to say the least…

Wouldn't you want to be someone that shares in this gold rush?

So what do you do?

You start a blog and try to figure things out on your own (I know I did). You read what they elite bloggers are putting out and think,

"well if I just listen to and practice what these elites are preaching, maybe I can get a piece of the pie…"

They tell you things that ultimately make sense:

You are going to need to deliver rich and valuable content

You are going to need to niche down the the smallest viable audience

You are going to need to start and develop an email list

You are going to need to use social media to promote your blog

You are going to need to create and sell a product

These strategies seem reasonable so you do them — and you think they work.

I mean you think you are writing great content, but ultimately you are biased — it's your work.

You think you are doing everything you should be doing with social media promotion — only if that were the case, you'd be getting copious amounts of traffic.

So you're following all the advice that's being given to you but nothing seems to be happening… What gives?

Shit… you probably even go around purchasing different courses that offer you "deeper" knowledge that'll finally help you put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Of course, if you're like me and you've bought the courses, you know most (if not all) of the courses are the same — they just outline the points with a different style.

So what — the Elite Bloggers that are making money hand over fist are holding something back…

Just…what if?

I don't necessarily think they are intentionally do it. I do think that a lot of them believe that their content and courses can transcend various niches and help everyone out.

Perhaps they don't want to really admit why their blog is in the position it's in.

In asking these questions, I took it upon myself to take a look into Pandora's Box of Elite Blogging and see what I can uncover with this Gold Rush.

***Before we get into this, if you've never read any of my work, you might be wondering who I am and why I think I'm inclined to write something like this.

My name is Jon Brosio and I am on a mission, through my blog, to help 1 million people discover, design and create lives that blend their passion with their work. The way I believe this can be done is through creating blogs.

Though I'm nowhere near 6 figures or even 5 figures (at the time of writing this) revenue generation I have been able to make money blogging and continue to develop and learn in order to get there. Above all, I take what I learn and share it with the world to help my tribe with that goal.

So without further adieu, let’s take a look…

1. The best way to make money blogging is to teach others how to make money blogging.

We should probably get the most obvious one out of the way first.

If you haven't noticed this already — you need to take the blinders off. The Elite Bloggers get rich because they are in the business teaching other bloggers how to get rich. When you can offer and deliver on the promise that you will help other bloggers get rich — you in turn will reap riches (same goes for the niche of helping people make money).

This is just the name of the game.

Have you ever noticed, no matter what niche, that the Elite Bloggers often have courses that teach you how to expand your blog? I.e. the travel blogger, the mommy blogger, the food blogger, the leadership blogger, the marketing blogger and the fashion blogger all have courses in how to utilize affiliate marketing as well as courses in using social media.

Now I'm not saying that if you want to stick with another niche you cannot make money — far from it. However, if you want to get to the 6 figure numbers, you're going to have be to become a Blogging Godfather/mother.

I know that by this point in reading this, you see that I myself fall into this category. And you're right.

I'm not going to apologize for it. I also know that I am building my business on transparency and the truth, no matter how hard a pill at times it is to swallow.

However, you don't have to go this route… By all means, if you want to illustrate to the world how paleo changed your life and made you an overall better person — go for it!

If you want to teach people how they can declutter their houses and in turn declutter their lives and make money while doing it — go for it!

The sky really is the limit with blogging.

2. When starting off — forget publishing original content

"Good artists copy — great artists steal" — Pablo Picasso

When you're starting out with your blog, instead of trying to come up with the next best bit of content since sliced bread — take inventory of what is working within your niche, give it your own spin, and make it better!

I am not advocating for plagiarism — far from it in fact.

I am saying, the Elite Bloggers most likely started out like you and me. They started a WordPress site with little to no direction and went forth on their own accord.

The successful ones understood and saw patterns of things that are already working. With that, you can "scrapbook" different pieces from the blogosphere and rearrange it with your unique voice and spin.

True Elites identify patterns

Every blogger's most successful post is a rework of someone else's popular content…

You have two options here when starting out:

Just "wing it" and hope your content strikes gold (like what I did for the first few months starting out…)

Rewrite content that you know and can see is already successful in your niche

"But that content has already been written" you say.

Perhaps… but do you really think that your entire audience and tribe has really seen everything written on the World Wide Web (WWW)?

Probably not.

Virtually everything that I write now is carefully studied and crafted. I take a lot at every element of the article form the title, to how many shares it's gotten on social media platforms. I take the overarching themes and spin them with my own unique voice.

The Elite Bloggers think they are constantly publishing original content. However, they are really just putting their own voice into it. So in a way…it is original content.

That's all you need to do.

This article was born out of another blogger and his spilling of the beans of these secrets — with my own experience and spin as a way to take the article to the next level.

3. List articles and How-To's are how you build and generate traffic

I've gotten flack for writing about his before.

And I'm not saying this is the ONLY way to generate views with your work. However, as the saying goes,

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Your audience and tribe is looking for answers and solutions to their problems (unless you fall into the exception to the rule of building and fostering a tribe that really is there for your creative and vulnerable expression).

Now I'll be the first to admit it — lists often come off as cheap. Take for instance all of the bull you find on sites like Buzzfeed and their subsequent list posts (I found these REAL articles by simply searching "worst Buzzfeed listicles" on Google):

35 People Who Just Realized That Seth McFarlane Is Actually Hot

37 Things Conservatives Would Rather Do Than Watch Obama’s State Of The Union Speech

12 Reasons Why Sam The Cat With Eyebrows Should Be Your New Favorite Cat

This doesn't even crack the article but I would puke if I pasted them all.

But the positive thing about List articles is it offers up a clear and present promise to the reader if used with value — "I am going give you [number of ways] I can help you with your issue."

In a world with millions of articles and thousands of bloggers, you will become Elite if you can provide your value clearly and succinctly to the individuals looking for it.

The same goes for "How-To" posts — only when you deliver on the promises. How many times have you read a crap "How To Write The Ultimate Blog Post" article? Spoiler alert.. not this one!

4. You have to be an "Annoying Salesman" to make money in this game

This one is a tough pill to swallow — I know especially for me.

The whole mission of my blog is to help 1 million people discover, design and create lives that blend their passion with their careers and do it through blog creation…

I didn't start playing this game to become the salesman sending hundreds of sales emails, but at the end of the day, it's a necessary beast.

Why?

Because it's extremely hard to gain and then keep peoples' attention.

When a blogger (worth his or her salt) is partaking in a product launch, they are going to send at least 5 emails throughout their campaign. Not to mention 3 on the final day of the campaign.

They don't do it to annoy or pester you — they do it because it works. You might be thinking I'm wrong because it doesn't work on you [all the time], but the Law of Averages says otherwise.

A lot of bloggers are posting ridiculous numbers in their monthly earnings. Say you come across an Elite Blogger that is advertising earnings of $100,000 for the month.

At first glance this seems absolutely unattainable. However, with some basic arithmetic (and consideration of Kevin Kelly's "True Fan" theory) the Elite Blogger very well could have grossed those numbers by selling a $999 product to 100 people.

On their email list of 20,000 people that's only converting .5% of their list!

Even if you are hovering around a couple thousand people on your list (1500–3000) you're looking at a mere few percent conversion!

Fact of the matter is, you aren't going to make money casually sending out an email on the first or last day of the launch.

You're going to make money when you roll out and series of emails that illustrate the pains and offer solutions to your Tribe's pain points.

Sure, you'll annoy the hell out of some people (and perhaps get some unsubscribes). But you can either play the game or watch from the bleachers.

Plus — if you're providing value and getting your tribe from their current location to their desired state, you all win.

5. Those pesky income reports work

I've seen so many times bloggers asking why Elite Bloggers are using income reports on their site.

The short answer? It works.

The reason for income reports aren't just to boast and brag about how much money they are making, it's for marketing purposes.

An income report is essentially a badge of credibility. It is illustrating to the visitor of the blog,

"Hey — this is how good I am at playing this game. Let me show you how to play it just as well as I do."

6. Not all blogging niches are created equal

And some just plain and simple aren't worth your time…

However, if you were in the game of selling a blogging course to an audience, wouldn't it be advantageous to you, from a marketing perspective, to pitch this as a "cure all" and that it can plug and play with any blogging niche?

Of course this isn't always the case.

I feel, that as a blogger looking to make a lasting change in the marketplace, there are niches that are more advantageous to pursue for financial gain than others.

The "secret sauce" for finding what niche is worth pursuing is finding which niches are both popular and profitable.

One of the best examples here is a "Making money" blog niche. It is extremely popular (who doesn't want to make money) and profitable: one can sell courses, guidebooks, affiliate marketing etc.

A Christian education blog is probably popular — but harder to make money. The margins are going to be slimmer considering a lot of spirituality shouldn't come at a cost.

Furthermore, with your niche, how can you interweave it into other arenas? Think about a paleo blog for a moment (one of the most popular niches and industries out there right now). What will that blogger write about?

Paleo food and recipes

Different exercises

Lifestyle changes including sleep and stretching (perhaps yoga too)

Overall mental wellness as a result of food

Different books to read on the subject

And within that audience, he or she is bound to find other people that are inspired to start a blog. The blog is successful because it illustrates a wide variety of topics.

Thus the cycle continues…

See how this is all coming together?

"The score takes care of itself"

It's one of my favorite sayings that a mentor once told me…

In other words, when you play the game right and play the game with all you got — the score takes care of itself.

In the game of blogging, we're all in the same boat. Perhaps we approach the game with different ideas and a different spin on things; but in the end, all of the rules are out in the open for us all to play.

If you choose to ignore the reality that's right in front of you and play the game from a different perspective — that's on you.

C'est la vie

How the Elite Bloggers are cashing in on this gold rush is right there out in the open. It's pretty obvious how they are making their fortune.

Unfortunately, there a lot of people who let their presuppositions get the better of them. They come into this game all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed thinking that they are going to have answers that no one sees. They think that they can take shortcuts all the way to the top.

But of course you see them around for perhaps a few weeks or couple of months and just like that — they're gone faster than TiVo.

As for me — I like to be upfront with all of this. I'm in this to cut through the veil that's being cast in front of you by some of the other whistle blowers out there.

Because I need you right now — nay, the world needs you.

We need your fresh ideas. We need your new take on things.

The economy is changing and the need for human creativity and innovation is going to come at a luxury.

Together, we'll be on the frontlines bringing that value to the masses.
